At the beginning of March mcphotography’s Mark and new apprentice Max took the trip to manufacturers, Sheffield Precision Medical, who specialise in creating precise surgical tools. We depicted their process of making the tools.
Sheffield Precision Medical really set the standard in designing and manufacturing surgical tools, using the most advanced CNC machines, they really do create flawless pieces. Mcphotography were commissioned to leave their Sheffield studio and to go and take some professional photographs of the process that they go through to reach a final product for use in brochures, on their website & flyers etc.

SPM wanted us to depict their process of manufacture from selecting the metal to the final inspections.
Using professional lighting techniques along with a variety of lenses, we captured numerous shots at different angles and perspectives.
From the very start of the process, precision was key, selecting the right metal for the right tool is paramount. Here SPM wanted to show their stock levels of metals. “We really wanted to show the grooves of the metal and the variety of thickness used. Using a variety of lights and soft boxes, we created highlights at the end of the metal, really showing off those little grooves.” said photographer Mark.
We also shot some ‘atmospheric shots’ to create a ‘moodier’ image using a combination of post production techniques such as burning and vignetting and professional lighting techniques.
Whilst on location we took some products back to our Sheffield photographic studio to shoot.
“I really wanted to show how clean the products were and have crystal sharpness in the writing and teeth of the piece. We used extensive lighting to really highlight every area of the product, and lens movements to ensure sharpness everywhere.” added Mark.
All these images will be used on their websites, brochures, flyers and all other forms of advertising and marketing.
To turn a large piece of metal into something beautiful really is amazing! Mark and Max had a lot of fun shooting, and it was fascinating to see the process and extents gone to, to get to the final product. We look forward to seeing these images been used.
